During Ms. Ruiz-Morales undergraduate
studies she worked on calculations of band structure of alloys in a collaboration
with the theoretical group of the faculty of chemistry-UNAM. After finishing
this project she moved onto the experimental inorganic chemistry area.
Ms. Ruiz-Morales obtained her honors degree in inorganic chemistry (coordination
chemistry) in 1992. Her B.Sc. thesis work involved the study of the coordination
of lanthanide ions by Ni complexes.
She continued to M.Sc. studies in chemical kinetics of coordination
compounds. She obtained her M.Sc. degree in 1993 and then went to Calgary
to start her Ph.D. studies at the University of Calgary. In 1994 she join
to Dr. T. Zieglers group. Her research involved the calculation of NMR
chemical shieldings of main group and transition metal nuclei in inorganic
and organometallic complexes and the elucidation of the electronic and
the environmental factors that produce the NMR coordination chemical shieldings.
She obtained her Ph.D. degree November 1997 and went to do post-doctoral
research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign working in Dr.Eric
Oldfield's group.
Her current research involves
the study of the electronic structure an chemical shifts of biochemical
systems.
Ms. Ruiz-Morales research interests include the application of theoretical
chemistry to inorganic, bioinorganic and organometallic chemistry, NMR
spectroscopy, density functional theory. Other scientific interest include
stellar chemistry.
