With a body of convincing experimental evidence pointing to the significance and reality of Palnck's quantum theory, it became apparent that a new theory of matter needed to be presented - one wherein the mechanical action between particles somehow incorporated this quantum hypothesis from the outset. And some justification for the quantum results needed to be forthcoming. Bohr was the first to put together such a model, though later Schrödinger and Heisenberg and Dirac really succeeded in determining a new model for matter that was capable of explaining the world as we saw it through our experiments. Here is a brief look at the various personalities that achieved this remarkable goal.
